Key Responsibilities:
• To support the SPDT by contributing relevant technical packaging aspects into new product concept development sessions. To guide Global Product away from technically unachievable, unethical or very costly proposals and to suggest alternatives that are acceptable from all points of view.
• To develop excellent working relationships and regularly liaise with Global Product etc.
• To ensure that the components developed satisfy both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the brief in a cost effective, technically competent manor.
• To liaise with the chosen Service supplier ensuring that the technical specifications allows efficient handling on the selected production line(s).
• To alert the Testing Laboratory and provide the components that will need testing in order to gain maximum confidence in the packaging and product combinations prior to full production of the end product.
• To regularly update the SPDT on the status of component developments against the targeted CPA dates and to flag up potential timing issues and problems.
• To develop and maintain excellent working relationships with Component Manufacturers.
• To keep abreast of appropriate new process and material developments in the packaging world, ensuring that BSI benefits to the maximum extent possible.
Candidate Requirements:
• Ideally holding or working towards the Institute of Packaging Diploma.
• Experience of the technical processes and materials issues involved in the production of packaging components and finished goods with the toiletries, food or other industry
• A sound knowledge of the potential suppliers of components, including their background, strengths and weaknesses.
• A proven creative and proactive approach to problem solving to reconcile the aesthetic and functional desires of Global Product and Design with the inherent technical, cost and timing constraints.
• Good project management skills.
• Good communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
